" I Love You "

Three simple little words and they happen to be three very powerful words. What makes us want to hear them? What makes us want to say them? And WHY do we put so much faith in them?

If you read my previous article, you know that I have a new boyfriend. We've been together for almost a month now, and we have yet to say the words. We've hinted around at them, and talked around them: "I feel unloved." "You're not unloved." And last night I he told another person "We're in love." But he hasn't looked at me and said, "I love you." I haven't said them either, because I need to know he'll say them back. Three little words and neither one of us can bring ourselves to say them. I keep thinking I should say them first, but like a lot of people, I'm scared.

Then I ask myself, "Why am I scared to say this to someone I love?" I say, "I love you" to a lot of other people. My family, some of my friends, even my cat. I think I've even said it to stuffed animals. Just last night, my boyfriend and I were out with another couple I happen to be close to, and the man of the couple said "Oh Mel, you know I love you." I said that I loved him too, easy as that, right in front of my boyfriend. He wasn't mad, as he's heard me say it to others, yet it got me thinking that I need to say it to the one I really am in love with. I know there's different kind of love. I know you can love someone and be IN love with someone. But I also know that sometimes words need to be said. Sometimes, if you let it go for too long, it becomes too hard to say them.

I'm going to tell him I love him. I'm going to take the plunge, dive right in, take the bull by the horns…Can you tell I'm stalling? My advice to you today? It's simple. Tell someone you love them. It could be the greatest thrill of your life
