Bite Back

I don't know when to cry any more
When to sleep
When to wake
All the things for which I strive
Slip away
Like a memory
Long, long ago

They're on the tip of my tongue
The words I need to speak
The way I want to feel
All the things for which I long
But are beyond me
Like the setting sun
Hide, hide away

I don't know how long it will last
My sanity
My numbness
Watching life rush by so fast
Without control
Like a tidal wave
Flooded, flooded and drowned

I just don't know when to quit anymore
When it began
When I should stop
I keep going on and on
Reaching out my hands
Like a beggar
Helpless, helpless and afraid

The Warning

To the fight she screamed
Arms clutching the child
Too young to walk
To the fight they heard
And saw the figure
Of the woman and child
Engulfed in flame
As they burned
Over the noise of the
Wailing infant
Her voice was soothing
And the horrid scene
Was kept mildly disturbing
The man who set the fire
Sat close smiling slightly
His pointed eyes and
Slanted brow wrinkled
With horrible delight
He took up the cry
To the fight!
To the fight!

Our Legacy

This world is full of cars
Harsh, noisy - their ugliness
Blocking out the sweet sound
Of the gull and
The whispering tree

This world is full of people
Rude, ignorant - their stupidity
Stealing away the innocence
Of the child and
The gentle day

This world is full of lies
Thoughtless, harmful - the deceit
Hindering our chance
Of random love and
Goodwill to all

This world is full of hate
Rampant, murderous - its voice
Drowning out the cry for help
Gone up in self defense and
The elusive truth

This world is full of religion
Crazed, fanatical - its promise
Failing to provide clear vision
To the masses and
Rational thought

This world is full of war
Obscene, grotesque - the horror
Blinding us to the fact
That none of this would exist
If it were not for mankind and
Its insatiable greed
