Emily, Tim and MarkJust when I think I won't really have anything to write about, something happens, either in my love life or in someone else's. My friend Emily had been seeing a man for a couple of months when he decided to just up and leave her. No real explanation, other than he wanted her to date others, to see that he wasn't the only man out there. So Emily did just that, in a few days, she had another boyfriend, a man that had been in love with her for quite some time. Some thought Emily was jumping from one man to another quickly, but when her first boyfriend, Tim, broke up with her she turned to a man who had always been there for her, and someone that truthfully she had loved almost as long as he loved her. But this wasn't an easy relationship Emily was jumping into, because her new boyfriend, Mark, goes to school in a different state. He had just been visiting when he got together with Emily. Off Mark went back to school, and for a few days, they called and e-mailed each other constantly. Soon enough, Emily got bored, since she didn't have very many friends. She loved talking to Mark on the phone or reading his e-mails, but after a while the calls were mainly them telling each other that they missed one another, and the e-mails were short and far between. Emily found herself missing the long conversations she had with Tim, and the funny e-mails he would send her during the day. She hadn't talked to Tim in weeks, and on Christmas decided to just message him with "Merry Christmas." Tim seemed elated to talk to Emily again, and they set up a night where they could just go out to dinner and movie…simply as friends. They kept it secret from everyone, though, because most of the people who cared for Emily thought Tim wasn't good enough for her, and had advised her to keep her distance from him. Emily and Tim had a nice dinner, caught up on everything that had been happening in their lives, and Emily thought that maybe they could just be friends. At the movies, as they were sitting and watching the previews, Emily noticed Tim watching her more than the movie. Finally he whispered to her "I know now why exes aren't supposed to hang out together. All I want to do is hold your hand." She let him. By the end of the night, they couldn't seem to let each other go. They talked for an hour before she went inside her house, and Tim told her quite plainly that he had made a mistake, that he missed her more than anything, and he was, in a sense, crawling back to her. He wanted her, just for herself, just as she was. It was something Emily had always wanted to hear from him. She clung to him, happier than she had been in weeks. But this was a new experience for Emily, because she had never once even considered cheating on a boyfriend, and here she was, with the one man no one wanted her to be with, allowing him to kiss her. She knew that to go back to him would hurt many people, but to stay away from him would hurt her even more. The truth was, she had never allowed herself to get over Tim before jumping into a relationship with Mark. And even though she loves them both, she knows she'll have to make a decision. So I leave it up to you, my precious audience. What do you think Emily should do? Should she ignore the advice of her family and friends and allow Tim to return to her? Or should she leave him for good, and stay with Mark? Talk about it on the Love Bites message board, or leave an email at lovebites2001@hotmail.com. I'll return in two weeks with an update on Emily, Tim, Mark and the results of what everyone had to say.
