Welcome back to Oddysey of Oddities. This week is our second part of Monsters

WATER MONSTERS

Okay so then you have your Loch Ness monster which is world famous. Does such a thing exist? Yes, it does. No...wait it doesn't really. What do you think? Personally I think that it is a mistaken identity thing. In the past several decades there have been scientists living in the area, devoting all of their time to catching a glimps of it. Sonar arrays have combed the loch along with all other types of sensing equipment. There were some interesting things found, but nothing conclusive or substantial enough to prove that it really is down there. I wonder how much tourist dollars float into the Loch Ness area? I'll bet they get their share for sure! I tend to think that it does provide some economic boost to the area. Is that the driving force behind it? That is a tough question to answer. Roswell has a bit of that going on as well. Tourist dollars over something that may or not be true. (And I will discuss Roswell at a later time)

Other sea monsters are claimed to be out there. Giant Squids are real creatures. I will say with some certainty that they do exist. Enough big squids have washed ashore now to satisfy me on the issue. I am going to say that there are lots of monsters in the sea that we have yet to see. On many of our deep ocean expiditions with robotic craft, we have seen "new" creatures that we didn't even know about. I think the ocean may have lots of things that are considered monsters to us. Little by little we may catcha glimpse of one of them.

There are always rumors about giant eels under some waterfalls in South America and Africa also. If they are down there, I won't worry about finding them. They can just stay put as long as they want, and I won't try to find them. Some of them are claimed to be a foot in diameter and about 30 feet long. I will not be the adventurer to go down and bring one back!

Our country doesn't have too many water monsters. "Champ" is one that lives in Lake Champlain in the eastern section of the country. It also has a Canadian counterpart cousin named Ogo Pogo. Both of these creatures are described just like the Loch Ness Monster. They are serpent like water dwellers that scare people every now and again. The likelihood of their existence is about the same as the Loch Ness Monster. I have seen the videos and pictures of all three of the creatures, and it is just too hard to come to any real conclusion about their reality. I suppose if one jumped out and bit me on the behind, I'd be a bit more convinced, but as of now, I just don't think I believe that they are there. With eight gazillion fishermen in the lakes, don't ya think they'd have snagged one or something by now? At least with the ocean, you can say it is too deep to snag abottom dweller, if they exist.

Ocean creatures have been reported since men first took to the seas. Most of the people that started sailing, were afraid to go out too far to sea in fear of what may lurk under the water. It took brave souls that went out fearlessly to finally turn the tides on exploring the world. Monsters were seen from time to time. The fearless sailors, kept their cool, and explored the world's oceans despite the fearsome rumours. I'd say the most fearsome creatures in the sea are human beings though. With the way we over harvest the seas, and make the oceans into commercial oil drilling wonderlands, there is no doubt that we are the most fearsome of all sea monsters. We destroy coral reefs by the thousands and let tourists ruin the beaches of the world, not to mention pollution. Isn't it ironic that land dwelling creatures are the most feared in the sea? Well, it is an odd place out there sometimes...Gtars said it.
